Next Steps

Before proceeding, it’s essential for you to familiarize yourself with some important aspects of our online mole check service to ensure a successful experience. Please carefully review the following sections and confirm your understanding by checking the corresponding box for each concept. A comprehensive grasp of the online mole check’s fundamentals is vital before moving on to the actual examination.

#1 Not Fully Equivalent to an In-Person Medical Examination

Please be aware that our online mole check service is not fully equivalent to a comprehensive, in-person full-body medical examination. The primary distinction is that, during an online mole check, you – a layperson – will be responsible for selecting the skin lesions to be assessed.

In contrast, during a face-to-face examination, a healthcare professional makes this decision and can promptly evaluate all lesions using a handheld dermatoscope.

Watch this video showcasing a seemingly normal lesion that was only detected through dermatoscopy. Ask yourself if you would be able to identify such a lesion and submit it for an online mole check.

I acknowledge my responsibility in the examination process.

In the context of an online self-examination, you need to identify the skin lesion(s) requiring evaluation. At times, larger, more noticeable lesions may be harmless, while smaller, inconspicuous ones can pose a risk and be difficult for a layperson to detect. Watch this video to learn the proper technique for conducting a self skin check to pinpoint suspicious lesions for the mole check.

I acknowledge my responsibility in choosing the correct lesions.

It’s difficult to overstate the importance of providing clear, well-lit, and high-definition images when seeking a professional opinion. Many ‘homemade’ images submitted by patients can be blurry, out of focus, underexposed, or overexposed, making accurate evaluations challenging. For optimal medical assessment, it is crucial to submit high-quality images.

I recognize the significance of the image quality I will provide.

Identifying the appropriate lesions (#2) is crucial, but equally important is providing high-quality, magnified, and contact front-plated images of the specific skin lesion, known as dermatoscopic images. To learn more about dermatoscopy, watch this informative video.

Can a reliable opinion be formed without a dermatoscopic image?

No. Consequently, you must submit a dermatoscopic image, and you have several options:

#1. Purchase a dermatoscope for lifetime use and share it with family or friends.

#2. Use the DIY method

Upon completing the online mole check process, you’ll gain a clear understanding of the numerous factors required to provide a high-quality medical opinion on a specific skin lesion. I often receive images via social media with requests for a quick evaluation. By the end of this process, you’ll comprehend why that is not feasible.

I acknowledge and comprehend the importance of a thorough evaluation.
